Yorkshire Gypsy Swing Collective
Marsden Mechanics Hall - Marsden Mechanics Hall, Peel Street, Marsden, Huddersfield, UK
A Yorkshire gypsy jazz supergroup playing music inspired by the legendary Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli of the ‘Quintette du Hot Club de France’. The Collective remains in the spirit of Django and Stephane, while pushing the genre of ‘gypsy jazz’ forward into a modern sphere.
Yorkshire Gypsy Swing Collective is Lewis Kilvington and Martin Chung (guitars), James Munroe (double bass), Derek Magee (violin) and Christine Pinkard (clarinet).
Expect some fast licks, burning ballads and even some Latin-inspired pieces. Breathing fresh life into the familiar as well as heading off to the unchartered, this well-honed duo know each other by heart. Their approach is bold, hypnotic and mesmerizing; interacting and infiltrating one another’s sound.
General tickets: £14; Age 17-29: £11; 16 and under: £1 (must be accompanied by an adult)
You can get a free ticket to the gig by selecting our Jazz Champion option and making a £60 voluntary donation to support the running costs of Marsden Jazz Festival. We will also be able to claim an additional £15 from the government through the Gift Aid scheme.
